Type of Article
There are three main styles for your article:
Story: funny, emotive or something learned
For example: a day on the trail/boat/slopes or a family vacation
Lifestyle: family’s way of living or traditions
Think about what this brings to your family
How to: Steps or lists on how to do something
Intertwine in a story or include why this activity is important to your family
Reflect on what I reached out to you about and see which style of article fits best for that topic and what you are excited to write about.
Activity ideas: hiking, camping, backpacking, rafting, canoeing, climbing, skiing, sledding, snowboarding, surfing, biking, snowmobiling, sailing, SUP boarding, snowshoeing
Formatting
Article Title: describes your article or main idea
By: Your name
Article Length: 500-1,500 words.
Layout: hook (engaging intro to motivate someone to keep reading), multiple paragraphs (main info with transitions between ideas), conclusion (wrap up with main idea)
If you are writing a story: intro, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution. Remember to include the characters (your family) and setting (where are you in the world and what season is it?)
Bio: A vertical photo of you
3 sentences about what you enjoy doing that pertains to ADVNTR Together audience (parents spending time outside and going on adventures with their kids), where you are in the world (country or state/province), little about your family (number of kids), one social media handle or website (optional, if you want others to connect with you).
Photos: 15-25 photos of your family that go along with your article. Send them in the largest jpeg file or in a RAW format. You must have ownership of the photos.
Photo style:
a horizontal landscape photo with the person(s) on either the left or right of the frame
horizontal photos
vertical photo(s)
horizontal bio photo of yourself
you can send color and/or black and white or a mix. Your article will either be all color or all black and white based on the editor’s selection.
What to include in your article
What value does this add to your family? Why is it important?
What challenges do you face? How do you address them - mindset, gear, resource, routine?
Delivery
Timing:
Send to me 3 weeks after “Yes, let’s write”
Week one: think and write down or voice record ideas: Get your ideas going
Week two: Write something. Take your ideas and put them together into a flow and have your first draft
Week three: Edit your article, check for spelling, grammar, and transitions. Upload final draft to Leslie in your shared Google folder.

Share your article and photos with leslie@advntrtogether.com through Google Drive.
If you do not have Google Drive, then send a file as a doc and photos to my email leslie@advntrtogether.com
Follow up
After you submit your article and photos, I’ll email you a contract giving Leslie at Advntr Together permission to use your photos (you maintain ownership) and exclusivity of your written article (not to publish your article elsewhere).
I’ll read over your article (which I am very excited about) and send you edit notes in 4-7 days (but up to two weeks).
You’ll send me a second edit and notify me with an email when you have edited your Google Drive article (within ten days).
I’ll do a final edit and have you approve the final draft when your article is going to be published.

Submission Deadlines
Spring Magazine
First draft submitted - January 23rd
Final draft approved - February 6th
Fall Magazine
First draft submitted - July 28th
Final draft approved - August 11th
First draft - include your article, title, bio, and photos uploaded to your Google Drive folder
Final draft - approve the edits - grammar, reorder of paragraphs in article
